The New Generation - Rose City: Part 3

Lucas met up with Prof. Oak after he had heard the announcement of his next battle. He switched some of his Pokémon before heading to the arena. The arena, as usual, was choked full of people. Lucas could see his mam, Avril and Prof. Oak. He could also see that girl Lily who he had met yesterday.

“Remember trainers only two Pokémon.” The two trainers took their Positions. “This will be a two on two battle between Lucas and Harold! BEGIN!”
“Okay let me start this off with Girafarig!”
“Fine then I choose you Politoed!”

Lucas took out his Pokédex. The entry on Girafarig read.

Girafarig the Long Neck Pokémon. Its tail has a small brain of its own. Beware! If you get close, it may react to your scent and bite.

“Girafarig use future sight!”
“Um… okay Politoed use mud shot!”
“Girafarig use protect!”
“Quick use ice punch!” Before Politoed could attack he was hit by an unseen attack. “What was that!?”
“That was future sight!” Harold chuckled. “Finish this with a stomp!”
“Politoed is unable to battle victory goes to Girafarig. Trainer please call out your last Pokémon.”
“Oh no… Politoed return.” Lucas took out another Poké Ball. “Ok I choose you Butterfree!”
“Girafarig use another future sight!”
“Butterfree use silver wind!”
“Girafarig another protect!” The attack failed. “NO!”
“Girafarig is unable to battle victory goes to Butterfree. Call out your last Pokémon.”
“Return Girafarig. GO! Murkrow!” Harold roared. “Now let’s quickly finish this with a steel wing!”
“Butterfree dodge and use protect!” Lucas was waiting for the future sight to hit. “Yes! Now use air cutter!”
“Murkrow use wing attack!”
“Okay one more air cutter!”

The two trainers stood silent waiting to see which of their Pokémon would faint. The crowd fell silent too.

“Murkrow is unable to battle victory goes to Butterfree. Winner is Lucas of Pallet Town.”
“Good battle.” Harold said.
“You too.” Lucas replied.

Lucas met up with Avril after the match outside. The two went to one of the cafés for something to eat.

“I wonder where my next battle will be?”
“Oh yeah since you’re though the preliminaries you’ll be battling on one of four fields. I hope you have a strategy for each one.”
“I do.”
“What do you wanna do?”
“I was gonna head to the waterfall. If you want to join me?”
“Sure that sounds nice.”

Lucas called out Togepi, he felt like she needed a walk. The two sat down near the waterfall where Lucas was yesterday. He let Togepi run around, he called out Eevee, Swinub and Butterfree too to keep her company. Avril also called out Aipom and Chinchou to play too.

“Hey stranger.”
“Oh hey Lily and hello Roselia.” Lucas tilted his head like a gentlemen would to a princess to Roselia. “C’mon out Meganium.”
“Thank you.” Lily sat down beside him. “Roselia has been anxious all day. It seems the two have become good friends.”
“They do seem to be getting along pretty well.” Lucas replied. “Oh Lily this is Avril. Avril this is Lily.”
“How do you do.” Lily said.
“Pleased to meet you.” Avril replied.
“I saw your battle today you were wonderful.” Lily added.
“Thank you, now the proper tournament begins.”
“Do you know who your next challenger is?”
“No not yet that won’t be decided until tomorrow.” Lucas said.
“I got to get back to the shop. Would you two care to come by later?”
“Sure we’ll see you later.”
“Later is it then.” Lily stood up. “Roselia we gotta be going now.”

Roselia was strode off in a huff when she was called, she waved goodbye to Meganium and her new friend Butterfree. Togepi jumped on Lucas, she was tired and fell asleep in Lucas’ arms. Lucas and Avril laid on the grass while Meganium and Butterfree also slept. Eevee, Swinub, Aipom and Chinchou were playing in the water. It was nearly sundown when they decided to head for Lily’s shop. All the Pokémon were returned except for Meganium and Butterfree.

“Oh darn light bulbs!” A voice roared from inside the shop.
“Hey Lily?” Lucas called out. “You okay?”
“Hello you two and yes I’m fine I just dropped a few light bulbs.” Lily sighed.
“Here let me help you.” Avril picked up a broom.
“Thank you.” Lily saw Roselia run to play with Meganium and Butterfree. “Lucas I want to ask you something.”
“Sure.”
“I would like to challenge you to a battle. Do you accept?”
“Yes.”
“Great c’mon we can use one of the training arenas.”
“Avril could you referee?” Lucas asked.
“Sure thing.” Avril said as the two took their positions. “This will be a… uh how many Pokémon do you have Lily?”
“Just one.”
“Okay this will be a one on one battle. Begin!”
“Roselia you ready!?”
“Meganium let’s do this!”
“Roselia use poison sting!”
“Dodge and use magical leaf!”
“Roselia now try a… uh.”
“Huh... Meganium use body slam!”
“Roselia use um... oh no!”
“Roselia is unable to battle. Lucas wins.”
“Is Roselia okay?”
“Yeah… sorry I…” Lily took a deep breathe. “I don’t do much battling.”
“I could tell.” Lucas admitted. “You need to have more confidence when battling.”
“I do… I’ll try.” Lily returned Roselia. “Well I gotta get going. See you guys tomorrow?”
“I’ll come by after my battle tomorrow.”

Lucas and Avril said goodbye to Lily. The two went back to their room. Lily turned the door sign to ‘CLOSED’. She turned off the lights and headed upstairs to her room above the shop. She made herself a cup of tea and sat by her window looking out to the ocean. Roselia sat beside her eating some Pokémon food. The lights started to flicker again. Lily just sighed as the lights went off.
